The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) is the northernmost higher education institution in the world, located at 78°N on the archipelago Svalbard, halfway between Norway and the North Pole. UNIS has ca. 500 students annually and offers education and research in Arctic natural sciences. Eva Therese Jenssen is the sole communication person at UNIS and has some very different challenges to most university communicators. Here you will get an insight into how UNIS works and the challenges of communicating education and research amidst polar bears, glaciers and climate change.
